This week I’ve read Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I’ve had it on my TBR list for so long, after all the hype around it, so I’m glad I finally got around to read it. This is a fast read, with lots of twists and actions, and an intriguing storyline, with the world divided by blood (red or silver). I have to admit though, that this book resembles a lot of other fantasy books, and that I especially got many flashbacks from Hunger Games. Mare felt almost like a copy of Katniss (just another skill than Kantniss’s bow) and Kilorn like Gale. But the story and characters had still had a lot of creative aspects that made it different enough. (And I do love Hunger Games, so I’m not complaining too much about the resemblances…) An aspect that also stood out and that I loved in the book was Mare and her family and their strong bonds. I also really enjoyed lot the battle scenes.
All in all, this is a fast paced, action-packed book with twists, betrayals, secrets, scheming and romances, and I even though I wasn’t blown away by this first book, I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the series. Find out more about the book and the author here: Victoria Aveyard
