Catching Jordan is the first book in the Hundred Oaks series and is such a sweet, adorable story about Jordan Woods, team captain and quarterback in her High School football team. Football and her teammates are Jordan’s whole life and she’s determined to get a scholarship to play ball in college. And to get the approval of her hard work by her dad, the great NFL player Donovan Woods. But when Ty Green comes to the same high school and gets a position as a quarterback in the football team, threatening her place in the team, her leadership and her dreams, suddenly things get complicated. Especially since he makes Jordan’s legs go weak and her stomach go wild with butterflies…
I really enjoyed this book! It was fast and light (I read it all in half a day), funny and quirky, but also with some depths and wonderful characters to root for. I adore Jordan for her toughness and her ambition, for standing up for herself and her love for football against her dad and for the way she bantered with the teammates, but also for being insecure and vulnerable about getting “girlie” feelings for the new teammate. Jordan overcomes so much in this book; she’s driven and passionate which makes it easy to root for her.
“Love hurts worse than getting slammed by a 250-pound linebacker.”
Speaking of her teammates, they were such great guys, not the stereotype jocks. They had such a great sense of humor and had no problems having a girl captain telling them what to do. Instead, they all treated her with respect and were very protective of her should any opponent try hurt her. I especially adored Sam Henry, teammate and Jordan’s best friend since childhood. I loved their relationship and how they always wanted what was best for each other, even though it meant getting hurt themselves. The romance part was enjoyable, but I never really fell for Ty. But the twist! Best ever! I didn’t see it coming, but I’m so happy Miranda Kenneally changed the developments into a new direction.
All in all, Catching Jordan is a really cute and enjoyable read, even if you don’t know the first thing about football, with wonderful characters and an adorable love story! I definitely want to keep following the people in Hundred Oaks and read more of Miranda Kenneally’s books after this!
